Ireland’s international soccer teams have achieved several remarkable victories over world renowned teams whilst counties such as Armagh, Derry, Armagh and Offaly, made history by claiming the Sam Maguire Cup for the very first time in their history.
Other sports codes have also a collection of historic teams.
Once the players cross the white lines into battle, coaches come under pressure, even the legendary coaches.
At club level the heat is not as intense but ambitious clubs will tease out the very best coaches to make them county champions in many sports codes. The time commitment and personal family sacrifices committed by coaches, are immense and increasing year on year.
In this category, we provide recognition and appreciation to Irish Sports Coaches all over the Island of Ireland.
Landsdowne Road, Dublin, is internationally famous as the home of Irish rugby but many more venues have a unique and historic story to reveal.
Croke Park is steeped in history but so also is the home of Crossmaglen Rangers, Co. Armagh, whilst Limerick’s Thomond Park also has a proud history to reveal. And what about Dalymount Park! It's a hive of History and fond memories for thousands of soccer fans.
We’ll be searching also for several former sports venues of times past.
There’s a Champion Hall of Fame Referee in every county.
Who Are They?
Referees in all sports are central to what occurs in any sporting contest. Decisions can be contested by players, match officials and none more so, than by spectators. The men and women who perform refereeing duties would seem to be a special breed of person who can shrug off criticism and often abuse and continue turning up for their next engagements. In this category we provide tributes and profiles to a collection of Irelands most respected Club and County Referees.
There’s a Champion Sports Volunteer in every county.
Our Champion Volunteers Hall of Fame project recognises men and women who abound in sports clubs all over Ireland. They are the people who have dedicated huge and incalculable time over many years in roles ranging from coaching, team management, maintaining club grounds and working in a variety of club functions, essential to the well being of all clubs.
These are the clubs run by community volunteers, people who provide a sporting and leisure outlet for thousands of boys, girls and adults around Ireland. Most clubs have a very proud history and tradition to protect and uphold.
Sports clubs are a huge part of our Irish Heritage and our new category “Clubs Hall Fame” provides an added publicity stream to reach out with your club profile to Irish people; Irish exiles and people of Irish ancestry.
